Why HiDOX FormDesigner?
In 2007 a customer tasked Integral with finding the best solution for document (forms for Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, Invoices, etc.) management. The customer was looking for a solution with the following attributes:
- Electronic delivery of documents
- Automated archiving of generated documents
- Flexible to use
- Easy for developers to gain proficiency with
- Grow with the customer as it upgrades the installed version of Baan ERP
After reviewing several document generation products two key factors emerged as stumbling blocks:
- The solutions were disconnected (data was created in the ERP system and sent to the document generator)
- To utilize the solution required two development efforts (one in the ERP system and one in the document generation package)
Many developers of forms are familiar with the pitfalls of a disconnected solution where the ERP system produces a file or data stream and ships it to 'black box' for processing. At the top of the list on this approach is the fact that one has no idea whether the document generated successfully. The ERP system generates the data and has to assume the document was created successfully.
Using a disconnected solution with a two step development process duplicates efforts whenever a new form is created or a modification requires changes to the Baan report and to the forms solution. HiDOX FormDesigner removes these concerns by having all forms development occur inside a Baan session.
